About
We are a proudly South African Dance Movement Studio based in Gauteng South Africa
Alkebulan was founded in 2021 by Thabo Naha and Elijah Mbekisa with a vision to redefine dance as a universal art form. They believe that dance is more than just movement—it is foundationally human, a language that transcends age, gender, background, and personality.What started as a part-time passion project soon evolved into a dynamic dance movement designed to break societal barriers and make dance accessible to all. Driven by this purpose, the founders established Alkebulan as a private company offering a diverse range of modern dance styles. From Contemporary and Tap to Hip-Hop, Gumboots, Pantsula, Bujwa, and Amapiano, each style is infused with Afro-fusion, creating a unique and expressive dance experience.At Alkebulan, we celebrate the power of movement to unite, inspire, and tell stories. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned dancer, our space is open to anyone ready to express themselves and be part of something bigger.

“Men has always danced” is Alkebulan’s battle cry. The company views dance not just as a pancultural phenomenon, but one that is foundationally human. We believe that everyone can dance including the physically challenged. “Tomorrow People” is a physically integrated dance movement programme which recognizes and celebrates the first-person experience of disability, not as a medical model construct but as a social phenomenon, through artistic and creative means.
Tomorrow People will serve children of all
abilities, including dancers who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing; dancers who are blind or have low vision; and dancers with a range of intellectual, emotional, and physical disabilities.
